I've had numerous debates with people (almost all women) who fully believe in astrology and I've never found a completely-rational explanation for their belief. The traits associated with each astrological sign are easily interchangeable and could apply to all sorts of people, regardless of when they were born. For example, my sign (and therefore CM's as well), Pisces, is associated with, according to Astrology.com, "the arts and other creative pursuits." Okay, obviously, I'm an artist, so they got that one right. They also say, however, that Pisceses (?) are "spiritual" and "charitable." I'm not completely selfish by any means, but I wouldn't go so far as to call myself charitable, either. And as for spiritual, well, regular readers of WSW know that I'm as secular as it gets.

The notion of predestination and free will is something I've always been interested in, and as you can see, I'm playing around with it a bit here in the person of Nadine's character. If anyone can provide me a justification for the notion of astrology, I'll be more than willing to listen.

You'd think that as CM's leading man, Aiden would have more to do within the context of the overall strip, but so far, I haven't really found a role for him other than as "straight man/lovable goof." Nadine, on the other hand, feels to me at times like she's gonna take over the story completely. Didn't plan it that way; it just happened. Besides, with only four panels a strip (though I do have an eight-panel one coming up) and a fairly large cast, there's only so much character development I can spread around.

Aiden, BTW, is wearing a Columbus Clippers baseball T-shirt. The Clippers are the local minor-league affiliate. When I lived in C-bus, the team moved to a brand new ballpark closer to the downtown area (though I did get to see one game at their old joint). It's a beautiful, old-fashioned park with a perfect view of the city skyline overlooking the outfield. I went there several times and enjoyed myself each time, regardless of whether the Clippers won or lost. I even have a sky-blue Clippers cap.

  1. Ah, yes, confirmation bias. The astrological character traits that are correct (or that the individual wants to be correct) float to the top, and the ones that are incorrect just seem to dissipate... :)

  2. I KNOW RIGHT??

Also wish I knew why women are more prone to believe this stuff than men, at least in my experience.
