It's been harder for me to justify sitting through the Oscar show in recent years, especially when I can see the highlights on YouTube!Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376065182154885503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4189120682398421108.post-29457503685830540072014-04-07T12:24:06.745-04:002014-04-07T12:24:06.745-04:00You make excellent points here, Rich. But you know, while I like the glamor of Oscars, I've decided it's just like a new just another new thing to ballyhoo, with some musical interludes on the side. Maybe we should get rid of the Oscars -- but they won't, because it's bad for business. Anyway, here's hoping Lupita will sideswipe the so-called "Oscar curse."DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4189120682398421108.post-83529810582503397372014-03-05T08:41:13.397-05:002014-03-05T08:41:13.397-05:00An excellent point, but if this is true, then they...An excellent point, but if this is true, then they may as well get rid of the Oscars altogether.Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376065182154885503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4189120682398421108.post-56461151003606879492014-03-04T22:34:38.488-05:002014-03-04T22:34:38.488-05:00That has been the Oscar curse ever since they bega...That has been the Oscar curse ever since they began dishing them out. It's not an issue of black or white skin. Julie Andrews famously said that winning the Oscar in 1965 almost wrecked her career. Producers don't want you when you are TOO big of a name. They think the Oscar-winner is going to prance around wanting "star" treatment, star billing and a star paycheck because they won an Oscar. Here's an article from last year covering some of the curse victims : http://metro.co.uk/2013/02/24/does-the-oscars-curse-really-exist-why-winning-isnt-always-a-good-thing-3511274/The Metzinger Sistershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10728879307994086409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4189120682398421108.post-17894263878357033522014-03-04T18:57:20.312-05:002014-03-04T18:57:20.312-05:00I remember Marlee Matlin. She was another one who couldn't avoid bing typecasted.
What about Mo'nique and Halle Berry? I hope Lupita doesn't suffer the same!
Nice done with this letter. Now, it's time to wait and hope for the best for this talented gal.
Greetings!Lêhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419693749682458647noreply@blogger.com
